It's funny - the summer school people saying that the modernism essays are unintelligible.
I just read Marinetti's 'The Foundation and Manifesto of Futurism' and whilst I disagree with parts of it (facist warmongers do make me uncomfortable), it makes me want to cry. To burn an art gallery, to sing, to celebrate.
It is the first meaningful essay in the book.

Keith Tyson - 12 Harmonics
So just listened to Keith Tyson talk about his 12 Harmonics piece. Remarkable piece of art, and a really nice bloke.
What's to tell? Themes of calculus (the infinite points to make up a perceived reality), chemistry, numerology (obviously), religion, seasons. And his birthday. And a tremendous variety of styles, across the panels and within. I like that idea a lot.
The nature of a work pleasing those who commission it (even though apparently DB didn't explicitly commission the piece), and the nature of narcissism in art, and in the artist.
Pity I wasn't drinking, there were rivers of wine.

Plan for a photo
Picture of the sea around rocks, with a long exposure to turn the sea 'misty'. Someone sitting or standing on the rocks - that person not blurred.
Note - could go for seagulls instead.
How to achieve
The sea needs a long exposure - turn ISO right down, close the aperture down. Do this to get around a 30 sec exposure. Remember settings.
Set flash, move it closer till get the correct exposure on the subject. Can only adjust the light from flash on the flash and by distance.
Set flash zoom to 135 or so, to focus on the subject.
Have the sun behind the camera. The subject needs to be blocking no light, if possible (so subject can scamper off if they want to).
Set aperture and shutter back - go for the shot =]
